Since getting the internet back up and running in my home, I have been able to get some much needed research done on grad school preparations, bills and e-mails, but have not had much time to explore the blogosphere. I did however take a few minutes this morning to peruse Theatre for the Future. I was pleasantly surprised by this blog a few months ago. I think it was the genuine focus on theatre for the sake of community, not necessarily community as society , but community as a collective. Then I discovered a database that Nick Keenan, the blogs author, and Dan Granata (whom I know nothing about at this point). The database sets up a network for the theatrical community to collaborate in ways that have been overlooked in the past decade. It seems to be a database that can help to generate the passing information quickly to the broader theatre community as well as and more importantly the local theatre community in Chicago. Needless to say, I enjoy what Nick is doing for the theatrical industry.
I then continued to explore the site a little more and found a "theatres" link just before the blogroll on the right. A single theatre is listed...so, obviously I am going to check it out...the link takes you to New Leaf Theatre's blog. This theatre has a lovely mission statement in the about section on the right. I am very taken by theatre's that have the drive to truly keep their audience up-to-date and in constant communication by not only keeping a well groomed website, but also a neat and interesting blog. So, thanks to the New Leaf Theatre for keeping its audience and fans in the loop and more importantly in relationship.
