Scenic Construction

I was building a set today, and I couldn't help but think about all the work put into these walls, windows, platforms, doorways, archways, props, lights, sound, not to mention the acting, management, costumes, publicity...The whole thing is one big facade...most times it never gets remotely close to a production that digs deep and finds some meaning in life....Reality isn't worth attempting to achieve in most cases, but couldn't we at least achieve a decent amount of intrigue and success with our productions. Is it the fact that we have spent so much time with these productions that we can't see their flaws or the flaws we have created? I really want to see a genuinely good piece of theatre this summer. If you happen to read this and know where I can go to see a good performance (dance, theatre, musical, children's theatre, whatever)...I just want to see something that will hold my interest, so I don't find myself wondering what I would have done differently. I want to be intrigued to the point of losing myself in the production...
