UW
I had an interview last night in Burbank with the lead lighting designer from UW. Despite locking my keys and portfolio in the car, I was able to keep a sense of humor about the situation. The tow truck arrived and was able to let me in my car without damaging the car...although it definitely looked like he was going to rip the door off. The theatre design program is in the top five in the U.S., carrying with it not only a great reputation, but from the sound of it a great sense of community that resonates with my view and approach to theatrical art. We sat down for a cup of coffee, scrolled through some photos, discussed why I wanted to attend grad school, why UW, my style, the goals I have for doing further study, and how the program and my interviewer approach theatre, and the education of its students. I am very excited about the prospects of this program and studying under this artist. When the interview came to a close, he gave me a confident look and said, "I would be happy to accept you to the program at UW." YeeeHaaa! I thought, and wheeewwwhhh! I was nearly 100% confident going in to the meeting, but what a relief to have been accepted. I can't wait to have my interview at UMASS. Will it be similar, completely different, challenging...more to come...
