?oudin

Some of you may be wondering what my poetry titles mean, well...allow me to elaborate. A number of years ago I noticed a trend developing in some of my poetry...it tended to be edgy, weird, sometimes depressing, and often had a twist on words, thought processes, and experiences. I decided I needed to to shape a series of poems with this kind of focus, and so started to write poems that had this intriguing quality to them. I decided that I wanted to have an easy, yet fun way to title them. I came up with using one letter of the alphabet to start the words. Now what would the words be...words I liked that started with a letter from the alphabet?...too random and subjective. I wanted something that could be controlled. I also wanted something that would distinguish my titles from any other title in the world. That's when I came up with the idea to create my own word. I explored different letter configurations, and then remembered a word I used in Ganz...ouzo...what a great word...want to know what it means...look it up, I did my first time, and my second, and again and again until I could remember it. I like the "ou" sound, but I needed more. I needed that ending. Again, I explored some ideas and decided I needed a strong ending. I almost went with "don"...but if felt to soft even though it was close to "done." I tried each different vowel sound. "don" "den" "dun" "dan" "din"..."din" That was it oudin...what a great word...what does it mean...read the poems and you will find each words meaning. I also decided that with two vowels at the beginning of the word, that I couldn't use every letter in the alphabet, but that I would need to use just the consonants. And so, that is the story of "?oudin."
