Part I

In the Fall of 2003, I wrote a play that started from a short little poem "Loudin." After I wrote the poem, I decided to take the letters from the poem and string them together into sentences. The play itself, Ganz, is a large acronym. You can actually read the poem by using the first letter of each word in the play. I then wrote "Coudin" and "Foudin" in response to a number of my friends, who thought that the play was too confusing to be artistic. I want my audience to think, I want my audience to relate not only emotional and physically to a performance, but also mentally. I believe an audience's mental experience is an essential aspect of a performance. My friends thought I was creating a theatrical piece of garbage, but as the years have passed since I wrote that first part of a three part series, I have become more and more convinced that Ganz is truly my first artistic step as a theatre artist. This was my first chance to speak with my artistic voice, and although the first performance of the Ganz was not how I would envision staging it now, the experience was essential for my growth to the person and artist I am today. I thank my friends for there skepticism and criticism, because it drove me to push harder, to write a second piece, and envision a third. I can't wait to see each part staged and performed.
