We're moving right along with the set for Arsenic and Old Lace. Here's where we left off at the end of the day on Friday.
Walls and supporting braces.
It was a very productive and exhausting day. We did a lot of lifting and pulling to get the walls to hold perfectly flush.
Stage two complete!
We installed the walls that were built on Thursday, hoisted the platforms onto the walls to make our second floor, built a small platform, and attached the stair case (which we pulled from stalk) to the platforms.
Right to Left...Marie, Dan, and Vic prepare walls for luan.
Today we started by pulling some flats to modify, paint, and restore for this show. I had to leave for a few hours since my wife, Adrienne, locked her keys in the car...I rode my bike in to work today (8 miles). Not bad, but a work out...then had to leave 45 min. after I had arrived to go back home the same 8 miles (now, I was tired)! We also had a doctor appointment for fetal monitoring of our beautiful baby girl, Camille Rachelle. I can't wait to hold my little angel!
Cut myself sawing a piece of wood...
Anyway, needless to say I missed half the day. I wanted to make up for some lost time by working extra hard, but right after I got back I took a saw to my hand. Luckily it was only a hand saw...I don't want to imagine what would have happened had it been a power saw...
Vic installed luan to the walls we built Thursday.
He did a great job...still some more to do, but I think we will have it ready for the next stage (more walls) by the end of the day tomorrow. Bethany, worked tediously hard today on some beautiful lattice/moldings.
Bethany working her magic.
It is so great to see all the little things that we can build! Fun tools and gadgets make this theatre thing a wonderful adventure. To be honest, I prefer working on shows that are a little more experimental than conventional, but this has been a wonderful learning experience and a lot of fun. Maybe it isn't so bad...Look at this...
Isn't that beautiful!
To finish off the day, I built a door flat. Pretty simple construction...I took some 1x12x14 knotty pine and ripped it down to 2 and 1/2 inch wide pieces. I cut the lumber based on my cut list, put glue on the end of each piece as I air nailed them together. Then, added in my support pieces to keep the frame strong. When that was finished I put some more glue on the top, layed a piece of luan down to staple with the air stapler, then finished it by routing off the excess wood around the edges. Here is what I got...
38" by 80" door frame.
Overall, the day was a very productive day. I can't wait to working on putting these walls up that we have been building and fixing. This should be quite the challenging experience...

Thank you so much Jonathon for the birthday greetings. I take very good care of that red shoe, when on the ground our 7 month old lab pup chews it.
thank you again.
