Arsenic and Old Lace--vii.

Today was a great day was a great day! We had 8 people working hard to attach walls, railings, wallpaper, paint, install doors, fix moldings, and just plane havin' fun. With that fun of course comes some struggles...I couldn't for the life of me complete a project without making at least one mistake (usually in my measurements). I also kept feeling like I was going to cut my hand off all day. Sometimes I just can't keep the idea that an accident could happen, and it really makes getting the job done hard... We had struggles with not enough wall paper, paint in the wrong places, doors that didn't fit right, railings that had to be modified, moldings that had to be adjusted over and over again. It was a crazy day. Here are some photos in rapid succession...

Beginning of the day platform...

The first two walls and a railing...

Back shot of the first two walls...

We are going to need to do some more bracing of these walls when we get it rolled onto the stage, but for now some basic wall to wall attachments will suffice.

Walls 3 (Doorway) and 4 (Archway)...

I am not afraid of heights, but I kept thinking that I was going to fall off of the edge. I am so glad we did not have any accidents today. Hospital 0 points...Scene shop crew 1 point...

Walls 5 and 6...both masking walls...

The cast came in just before lunch to walk the set...

This is the largest cast of the shows this summer...I think there are about 12 or 15 people in the show, but I may have been counting stage managers and directors...I am not completely sure who everybody was. We in the scene shop don't get out much to see other people...we work work work to get the show ready for opening...can't say I don't enjoy it though because I do...!!!

Cast wrapping up their tour of the set...

Cynthia go down and dirty today with some green paint and rubber gloves. She was putting the second coat on the walls before we install the chair rails, base boards and crown molding. Thank you for your great work Cynthia!

Cynthia paintin' the wall...

After lunch, I got to working on finishing the window seat. I really enjoy working with moldings. It is therapeutic in nature, so long as the angles don't get too complicated.

Ready and waiting...

First two pieces successfully attached...

Molding finished...

Lid attached...now, it just needs a paint job...

I have a day off tomorrow while the paint crew comes in to get the grain work finished on the floors, doors, and moldings. We will be tearing out the old set from Rabbit Hole, and then rolling in the new set for Arsenic and Old Lace. We won't be doing much more than that, but that in and of itself is a lot of work. We will being putting the final touches on the set Monday, then it will be ready for the techies to get the lights, sound, and action ready to go.
